UNCONTESTED DIVORCE IN ALABAMA: CLIENT INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: Complete the Intake Form
We have an intake form that you complete prior to your appointment. Please complete this as soon as possible. This information helps us prepare the necessary paperwork.

STEP 2: Watch the Informational Video

STEP 3: Prepare for the Filing Fee and Attorney Fee
There is a filing fee associated with divorce proceedings. The exact amount varies by county. We'll provide you with the specific fee amount for your case.
The filing fee is Etowah County is $201.76.
The attorney fee varies depending on the time involved and complexity of the case
STEP 4: Submit Documents & Information
As we work on your paperwork, we may need additional documents or information from you. Please respond to our requests promptly to keep the process moving smoothly.
STEP 5: Review & Sign Forms
We will carefully prepare your divorce forms for your review. Once ready, please sign the documents as indicated.
Stay in contact with your spouse to schedule their time to come in and sign (unless there is a no contact order)
STEP 6: We Handle the Filing and Service
Our office will file the divorce paperwork with the appropriate court.
STEP 7: Waiting Period & Potential Hearing
Alabama has a 30-day waiting period for uncontested divorces. Some counties may require a short hearing before the judge. We'll keep you informed about any required court appearances.
STEP 8: Finalizing Your Divorce
When the waiting period is over and requirements are met, you are now eligible for a divorce. We will then request that the judge sign the divorce decree, making your divorce official. We'll send you a copy of the decree.
